Roof Flashings: What are they?
Flashings help direct the flow of water away from the most vulnerable areas of the roof and are most commonly found around chimneys, skylights, ridges, and vents.
What do they do?
The flashings help to seal joints and to prevent water from seeping into your home. Flashings are an essential part of protecting your roof from the elements and may also help prevent the growth of mold due to excess moisture buildup. If water is able to penetrate the roof, it may lead to leaking, structural damage to the roof deck, and many other problems.
What are roof flashing made of?
They are most commonly made of:
- Aluminum - Steel - Plastic - Composite/fiberglass - Stainless steel - Copper
