8 Items that Impact the Cost of EPDM Roofing
1. The brand of EPDM you select.
2. Color. EPDM membranes are available in two colors: black and white. While the white membrane is more energy efficient, it is also usually more expensive than black.
3. Cover or tear-off existing roof? It may be possible to clear surface debris and install the EPDM over the existing roof. But if the existing roof does need to be removed, this will increase the cost of your project.
4. Location. Costs vary a little bit from place to place.
5. Number of penetrations on the roof. These penetrations could include things like exhaust pipes, chimneys, and skylights.
6. Thickness. Thicker membranes tend to last longer but have a higher price tag.
7. Coating. Certain treatments can be added to EPDM as an additional layer of protection or to customize color. Applying one of these coatings to your roof will come at an additional cost.
8. Technical skills. Traditional roofers may not be familiar with installing EPDM. You may need to pay more to find a trained installer to perform the work. Using a contractor unfamiliar with EPDM could lead to leaks and damage to your roof.
