The Good:
• Very durable, can easily last 40+ years
• Can be installed quickly
• Fire-resistant
• Low maintenance
• Reflect heat, helps with energy efficiency
• Will not attract insects
• Relatively lightweight, can be installed over another roof
• Does well in severe weather
The Bad:
• Expensive, high initial cost
• Can be noisy
• Softer metals may dent
• Painted metals may chip or fade
• Some metals may rust or become corroded

Metal roofing comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. There are two main types of metal roofing: standing-seam panels and metal shingles. Both varieties can be installed with relative ease and they can often be installed over an existing roof due to their lighter weight. When properly maintained, a metal roof will last 30-50 years. Metal roofs, especially those made of copper and stainless steel, are very expensive. However, they can withstand almost any weather and require very little maintenance.
